Yes, hit the addon domain button in cPanel, Fill in the necessary information.
Go into the SQL Manager and create the database.
Fantastico will automatically install it, no need to gather database information if you are using that.

The tutorial in the cpanel is very user friendly as well and might help you out
The 2nd domain will need to have WP (or chosen platform) installed separately on it. Different domains may have different platforms and it keeps this all separate.
You need to be sure and point your domain to Hostgator nameservers if you haven't yet.
I am database dumb; but it seems these are auto done
check out the tutorials

first step: Make sure to point the new domain to hostgator's nameservers
second: addon the new domain in hostgator's cpanel (there should be an icon there for addons)
third: install wordpress (Fantastico if still being used in Hostgator, or Simple Scripts) to your new domain ie public_html/newdomain
You don't have to worry about database creation, it is automatic when you install Wordpress in the new domain.
I hope that helps.

In my case with hostmonster ( I think it will be the same with hostgator)
I don't need to create another database. just install using simplescript (it's similar with fantastico) and you ready to go.
Worpress Installed plus with your new databse

Okay, here's details... lol
1) Go to your domain registrar and point the domain to your hostgator nameservers. If you don't remember them, look up your first domain at betterwhois.com and it will show you the nameservers.
2) Log into your hostgator cpanel (OriginalDomain.com/cpanel) and click on the addon domains icon. Fill in the information - enter the whole domain name with the .com or .net
3) Go back to "home" in cpanel. Click Fantastico
4) When fantastico loads, click on "wordpress" in the left column.
5) When the wordpress installer loads, select the new domain name from the drop down menu to be sure you install to the new domain, not the first one.
6) When the install is done, there will be a box that allows you to send details to your email address. Do that if you want to. It's optional.
Voila - you're done. Your admin will be at newdomain.com/wp-admin
have fun.

The first thing you need to do is buy a second domain on your hosting service. Once you have done that you can install a website builder and start building your sites
hope this helped
